Skiing in Tignes
More about the ski resort
The Espace Killy ski area and the ski resorts of Tignes and Val d’Isère offer a varied mix of slopes. Thanks to its high-altitude location, the area around three-thousand-metre summits such as the 3,656-metre-high Grande Motte boasts excellent snow conditions and an extra-long season.
The sporty slopes of Tignes are located at altitudes between 1,550 and 3,456 metres above sea level. This results in particularly long descents and great altitude differences.
Extra event tip: Every year in March, the Winter X Games Europe take place in Tignes. The spectacular event sees the world’s best winter extreme athletes competing in various disciplines.
Tignes in a nutshell:
- a total of 156 ski runs and 300 kilometres of slopes at Espace Killy
- 78 lifts and cable cars
- 20 kilometres of glacier runs for summer skiing at Grande Motte (3,656 m) between June and August
- highlight for skiers looking for a challenge: the black “La Sache” run from Aiguille Percée to Les Brévières
- freestyle action at DC Park Tignes
- vast choice of freeride runs and safety measures
- après-ski in bustling Le Lac

Our RENTertainers recommend
Grande Motte is waiting for you! A spectacular ride with the state-of-the-art “Funiculaire Grande Motte” underground cableway takes you up to Tignes’ landmark glacier, which is also the region’s highest summit. Up on the glacier, a choice of one-of-a-kind descents is waiting for you.
For instance, one of the world’s longest blue slopes winds its way over several kilometres past the glacier to Val Claret. The slope is also suitable for beginners. Advanced skiers and snowboarders will enjoy the red slope, which covers a whopping altitude difference of 1,400 metres on its way down to the valley.
