Valloire in the Galibier-Thabor ski area

Skiing in the footsteps of Olympic champion Jean-Baptiste Grange

The village of Valloire is located between two famous mountain passes – Galibier and Télégraphe – in the French Alps and part of the Galibier-Thabor ski area. Among other things, the region is known for being a legendary cycling location. Riders of the Tour de France have climbed the Col du Galibier on several occasions.

What’s more, the mountain village is situated at an altitude of 1,400 metres above sea level, so there’s plenty of snow all throughout winter.

Speaking of winter: The most famous citizen of Valloire is Olympic slalom champion Jean-Baptiste Grange. If you want to try your hand at slalom too, there are four slalom runs in the ski area. To make sure you’ll achieve a personal best, we recommend you get your ski racing equipment at INTERSPORT Rent.

More about the ski resort

From Valloire, two cable cars take you to the top of Crey du Quart or Sétaz. If you opt for the first of the two, Lac de la Vielle snowpark awaits you. It features several different zones from easy to difficult. But the snowpark isn’t the only place at Galibier-Thabor ski resort that has winter sports enthusiasts giddy with excitement.

Around 70 per cent of the slopes in Valloire and Valmeinier are at an altitude of over 2,000 metres. If you take a look around, you’ll quickly notice: There are snow-covered runs as far as the eye can see. If you want to put your skiing skills to the test, head for the Grand Plateau. That’s where you’ll find two black runs – the Cotérieux run towards Valmeinier and the Méregers run into the Valloire valley.
